NetID & Accounts
Your NetID is a unique name assigned to you when you are accepted as a student at EIU or become an employee of EIU. It serves as your login to many University computing and networking services and also determines your University email address, which is email@example.com. Your NetID will be established by the EIU Banner System and will be a derivation of your first initial, middle initial and your last name. If you do not know your NetID, you can look it up by searching for your name in the online directory.
Your NetID has a password associated with it that is commonly called your NetID password (sometimes also called your Net Password). Many secure University services will ask for your NetID to find out who you are and your NetID password to verify that you are who you say you are. You may change your password by calling the ITS Help Desk at 581-HELP(4357) or going to the EIU Password Change page.
In conjunction with your NetID, Information Technology Services offers a number of different computing accounts to help enhance access to technology services at EIU. Faculty, staff and students are offered a number of computer accounts which allows access to a wide variety of services.
