Internet/Network Services

EIU provides both wired and wireless access in all academic and administrative buildings, in hallways and in many outside areas.

Wireless

The wireless network at Eastern allows notebook computers and some handheld devices to connect to the campus network using wireless/radio frequency technology rather than by a traditional Ethernet cable.

The advantage of the wireless network is that it allows for mobility. Using a wireless-capable notebook allows you to access the campus network from locations that do not have traditional network connections, such as common areas, lounges and outdoor areas.

When purchasing a notebook computer, make sure you purchase one with an internal wireless card meeting 802.11b or 802.11g specifications. If your notebook does not have a wireless card, you will need to purchase one in order to connect to Eastern's wireless network. Information Technology Services has provided wireless access points throughout every academic building and residence hall common area on campus.
