This process must be completed prior to using your Voice Mail
Step 1: Access the University Voice Mail system
- Dial 348-0400
- Enter your temporary password which is the same as your seven digit phone number. (ex. if your number is 581-1010 then that is also your temporary password.)
Step 2: Change your temporary password
- Enter four to fifteen numbers for your new password. (FYI - Make sure it's one that you can remember. If you forget your password, your messages will be irretrievable.)
Step 3: Record your Name
Step 4: Record your personal greeting
- To use the standard greeting, press [1]
- To record a personal greeting, press [2]. Speak clearly into the handset.
- Press [#] to end your message.
- If you wish to re-record your personal greeting, press [*] .
Step 5: Listen to the rest of the voice mail tutorial and follow the prompts.
Step 6: Press [*] to exit from voice mail and hang up your phone.
Accessing Your MessagesThe university's voice mail system provides notification of a new voice mail by stutter dial tone.
Your messages will be played in the order from urgent to saved messages, with the oldest message in each category being played first.
From your ROOM:
Step 1: From your EIU Residence Hall phone, dial your Access Number 348-0400.
Step 2: Proceed to Listening to your voice mail.
From an Off-Site Location
Step 1: Dial your access number, with area code when necessary.
Step 2: Wait for the system greeting and then Press [#]
Step 3: Dial your mailbox number (seven digit phone number)
Step 4: Proceed to Listening to your voice mail
Listening to your messagesStep 1: Enter your password. You will be at the Main Menu.
- To listen to your new unheard messages, Press [1] [1]
- To review all saved messages, Press [1]
- Press [4] to Replay
- Press [7] to Erase
- Press [9] to Save
- Press [*] to Exit Voice mail
You will have the following options while listening to your messages:
Changing Your Recorded Name
- Press [#] to skip to the next message
- Press [1] to Rewind the last 10 seconds
- Press [11] to Rewind to the beginning
- Press [3] to Fast forward 10 seconds
- Press [33] to Fast forward to end
- Press [9] to Increase message volume
- Press [8] to Restore message volume
Step 1 Access your voice mailbox
Step 2 At the main menu, Press [4] for "Personal Options"
Step 3 Press [3] for "Greetings"
Step 4 Press [3] for "Recorded Name"
Step 5 At the tone, record your first and last name and Press [#]
Step 6 Press [*] if you wish to re-record your name
Step 7 Press [#] if you are satisfied with your recording
Step 8 Press [*] to exit
Change Your Personal GreetingStep 1 Access your voice mailbox
Step 2 At the main menu, Press [4] for "Personal Options"
Step 3 Press [3] for "Greetings"
Step 4 Press [1] for "Personal Greeting"
Step 5 At the tone, record a new greeting
Step 6 Press [1] to review what you recorded
Step 7 Press [*] to re-record the greeting
Step 8 Press [#] to indicate the end of the greeting
Changing Your PasswordStep 1 Access your voice mailbox
Step 2 At the main menu, Press [4] for "Personal Options"
Step 3 Press [2] for "Administrative Options"
Step 4 Press [1] for "Change Password"
Step 5 Enter your new 4 to 15 digit password
Step 6 Press [#] to indicate that you have entered the new password
Sending A MessageYou may send a message to other voice mail subscribers on campus through your own mailbox.
- Enter Your Mailbox.
- Press [2] at the Main Menu - Record Your Message at the Tone.
- Press [*] at anytime while recording to erase and re-record the message.
- Press [#] after recording your message.
- Enter the 7 digit destination mailbox number on campus.
- Select Delivery Options and Press the Following:
- [1] To mark the message private.
- [2] To mark the message urgent.
- Press [#] to Send the Message.
