VPN

Thanks to VPN (virtual private network) technology, it is now possible for EIU employees to gain access to critical EIU information from home PCs using a secure, easily installed software appliance. EIU's VPN software makes use of any available internet connection to allow employees access to EIU data that they normally would not be able to obtain off campus while still maintaining privacy through the use of a tunneling encryption protocol and security procedures.

When To Use VPN

When the data/information possibly contains sensitive data such as student information, social security numbers, restricted University resources, passwords, credit card information or any confidential information. When you are accessing any of the above data using a wireless connection on (or off) campus or from any network that is not directly part of EIU's network.

Best practice

Install our provided pre-configured free CISCO VPN Client. Establish your internet connection. Open the VPN client and connect. Authenticate with your own UX1 (email) ID and password. Disconnect the VPN client after you are done.

Dialup Access

ITS does still provide dialup internet access to EIU faculty, staff and students. Instructions for accessing the system are provided below:
